Facilities

St. Joseph’s School – Yorkville is housed in a five-story brick and stone building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.  Situated east of First Avenue on East 87th Street in a quiet neighborhood, the grounds of St. Joseph’s community include the church, parish house, and school.  Our facilities honor both our long history in this building, as well, as the twenty-first century education we provide to our students. 

The school is aware of the importance of safety and the well being of every child. The security system monitors the safety of the children inside, as well as, outside the school building. A state-of-the-art fire alarm system is connected to a central-monitoring system for immediate response. We hope this photo collection of some highlights of our facilities will help you get a sense of our school and we invite you to come visit in person.

Twenty large and airy classrooms as a backdrop for work, movement, and play.
Interactive SMART Boards in all classrooms bring lessons to life, increase engagement, make concepts easier to learn, and help address different learning needs.
Our hallways are bright and organized, and showcase academic work and student art throughout all grade levels.
The Early Childhood indoor playroom provides an enriching space for the younger children to enhance their learning and develop key skills such as inquiry, expression, and cooperation, through play.
Two science labs where students in Pre-K 3 - Grade 8 can see science concepts in real life and perform hands-on experiences using scientific inquiry.
In the library, which is the size of two spacious classrooms, children have access to over 10,000 books, use of computers, and receive library skills instruction by a full-time librarian. The space fosters love of reading, curiosity, and imagination.
In the art studio students are exposed to a variety of art mediums such as painting, print-making, sculpture, drawings, etchings, and more. The art teacher exposes the children to a wide variety, which allows their creativity to blossom. Our spring art shows highlight the great works accomplished in the studio.
Our hardwood floor gymnasium is used for physical education classes, after-school enrichment activities, CYO basketball, and the regular after-school program.
Our state-of-the-art computer lab provides opportunity for whole group technology, computer science, coding, STEAM, and digital citizenship lessons. The computer lab supplements the other 300+ computer devices in the building.
Students express themselves in various ways from choral singing to instrumental learning. The students have musical depth and exposure through weekly music instruction, choral singing, music theory, special choir, individual voice lessons, glee club, and more. Two concerts, coffee houses, and special events showcase the musical instruction that takes place in the music room.
Our newly renovated cafeteria and kitchen are a welcoming place for students to gather together for lunch and are also used by the NYC Office of Food and Nutrition to prepare daily free breakfast, lunch, and after school snacks for our students.
Students have the opportunity to go outside each day for recess and use recess equipment to be physically active and release energy, allowing them to return to class with focus and attention.
One of three spacious assembly rooms, the auditorium holds approximately 400 people and serves as a meeting place for daily morning assembly, holiday events, dances, liturgies, speech bees, drama productions, concerts, special assemblies, and performances.
Our dedicated After-School Center allows children a quite place to complete their homework after school and participate in recreational activities, including gym time.
